Under My Skin
I am a bit testy these days, and here's why:
1) The bloom is off the rose with temporary assignments. I am in a room shared by five people. Thankfully, it seems that only three of the other desks are filled at any given point. But this room also leads to two offices, so there is always someone swarming. But I do get to hear a good amount of chatter about the internal workings of the hospital. It's a little frightening, to say the least.
2) The temp job asked, in that way that is more suggestion than question, if I would take the minutes at a meeting tomorrow. Oh, yeah...the meeting is at 7:30a.m. Between the obscene hour, my lack of familiarity with the department and staff, as well as my lack of medical background, this should be a first-rate shitty experience.
3) I've agreed to work store inventory this Saturday at the ungodly hour of 6:00a.m.
4) The combination of #2 and #3 are guaranteed to render me useless through Monday afternoon.
5) I've been holding at the same weight for three weeks. Yes, it's great that I haven't gained, but I need to see some small losss to keep myself motivated.
6) My house is not my own. There's barely a day that Joe's mother isn't looming to chat when I leave for work and come home from work. If I'm off, she's on the phone or at the door to find out if I'm feeling okay. Almost daily, she's hanging out in our apartment -- whether or not the boys are at home. Do you have any idea of how maddening it is to to come home to find her parked in front of the television, oblivious to the fact that she's in my house -- uninvited -- and not get the hint when I hid out in another room? If Joe doesn't say something soon, I'm going to resort to drastic measures to afford myself a modicum of privacy.
I'm nearly finished with the back of the Cross Over Tank from last summer's Vogue Knitting. Sadly, I won't be knitting under the desk at work today.
